August Principal's Message

August is upon us and it is time to start planning for the 2022-2023 school year. I hope everybody has enjoyed their summer and remained safe and healthy. I wanted to share a few dates and details in August for you to know to prepare for coming back to school.

August Office Hours: The office hours at Thomas Ewing Junior High School will be from 7:30-3:00 starting in August until school starts. Please call, email, or stop in for anything you may need before school starts. Counselors will be working on schedules and will email students if they have questions. Please be sure to be checking your student emails. 

Athletic Meetings: Athletic Parent Athlete Meeting = Thursday August 11 7:00pm LHS Auditorium.

First Day of School: The first day of school for grades 6-8 will be on Monday, August 22. School starts and the tardy bell rings at 7:30am. School ends at 2:27pm.

PowerSchool: The Lancaster City School District has implemented a new student information system for the 2022-23 school year.  In previous years we used Progressbook.  We are now using PowerSchool. PowerSchool provides a parent portal for you to see your student's information such as schedule, fees, grades, etc...  The portal will also be used to update student information and to sign off on required documents and agreements. Parent portal access letters will be distributed at open house and/or the first week of school.  Parents will create their own accounts and use the information on the letters to link students to their account. The PowerSchool parent portal will also now be linked to My School Bucks.  My School Bucks will enable parents to pay school and course fees as well as pay for student lunches. Please be patient as this system is new to all of us as we will communicate information to you once it is available.

Back to School Open House: The TE Back to School Open House will be on Wednesday, August 17 from 5:30-7:30pm. This will be a time to pick up a schedule, tour the building, mingle with staff and get something to eat at one of the food trucks. There will be general informational tables set up as well. 

6, 7, and 8th Grade Schedule Pick-up: There will be schedule pick-up for 6, 7, and 8th graders that could not make it to Open House on: 

Thursday, August 18 from 5:00pm-6:00pm (front office)
Friday, August 19 from 9:00am-2:00pm (front office) 

If none of these dates work or your student loses a schedule, we will have copies as well on the first day of school that they can pick up.

Chromebooks: Incoming 6th and 8th graders will use their chromebooks from last year. 7th graders will be issued a new Chromebook at the start of the school year. Please charge them to see if there are any problems before school starts and if so bring it on in to the tech office in our library. 

We are very excited for this school year. We will be providing information before school starts and throughout the year in various ways. Make sure to sign up for our district listserv emails and follow the Thomas Ewing Facebook and @TESenators page to get all updates regarding news and events at Thomas Ewing.

We are looking forward to another school year providing the very best opportunities and programs for our students, families, and community.
